VisitISIS-Linked Attacks in Dagestan: Synagogues and Churches Targeted, 5 Police Officers Among Multiple Casualties

In a series of coordinated attacks in Dagestan, Russia, gunmen targeted a synagogue and an Orthodox church in Derbent, and a police checkpoint in Makhachkala. The attacks resulted in significant casualties, including the deaths of five police officers and injuries to nine others. The synagogue in Derbent was set ablaze, and heavy gunfire was reported in the vicinity. A priest was also killed in the assault on the church. The attackers, described as bearded men dressed in black, engaged in firefights with law enforcement. The Makhachkala synagogue was also attacked and burned down. The Russian Interior Ministry and local authorities have confirmed the incidents and reported that the situation is being handled by security forces. The attackers are believed to be affiliated with ISIS. Additionally, 14 civilian deaths have been reported.
