The letter, which congratulated Pezeshkian on his election and expressed condolences for the death of Raisi, was actually published by the Iranian embassy in Ireland back in July. The accusation, which also included claims of spying on Ireland, has sparked controversy and criticism, with some commentators alleging it reflects a broader issue of antisemitism within the Irish government. Israeli officials have rejected the accusation, calling it unfounded. Taoiseach Simon Harris and Tánaiste Micheál Martin have publicly supported President Higgins in the dispute.
