Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, 63, has been confirmed dead following a helicopter crash in a foggy, mountainous region of northwestern Iran on Sunday. The crash also claimed the life of Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and several others on board. The helicopter went missing after encountering heavy fog, and the charred wreckage was found after an hours-long search. Raisi, who was elected to the presidency in June 2021, is survived by his wife and two children. State media confirmed the incident.
