Microsoft has reported that Iranian government-linked hackers are intensifying their efforts to interfere in the 2024 U.S. presidential election. The activities include cyber operations targeting U.S. officials and political campaigns, as well as influence campaigns using fake news websites. These operations are part of a broader strategy to gather intelligence and disrupt the electoral process. Microsoft researchers have identified attempts to breach the email accounts of campaign staffers and local government officials, including a high-ranking official in June. The report also highlights the use of artificial intelligence to create and spread disinformation, particularly targeting former President Donald Trump, through four fake outlets.
