VisitIranian APT42 Hackers Ongoing Targeting of Biden, Trump, Harris Campaigns
Aug 15, 2024, 01:16 AM
Google has reported that an Iranian hacking group, APT42, linked to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, is actively targeting the personal email accounts of individuals associated with the U.S. presidential campaigns of President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and former President Donald Trump. The cyberattacks, described as ongoing and wide-ranging, have been occurring since May and June, focusing on approximately a dozen individuals, including current and former U.S. government officials. Google's Threat Analysis Group has managed to disrupt some of these small but steady phishing attempts. The campaign also targets Israeli military, government, and diplomatic organizations. The FBI is investigating these hacking attempts, which are part of a broader Iranian effort to interfere with the U.S. presidential election.
