VisitIran to Supply 1,500 'Meraj' Drones to YPG/PKK Amid Turkey’s Opposition
Jan 12, 2025, 12:57 PM
Iran has reportedly agreed to supply 1,500 kamikaze drones, identified as 'Meraj' drones, to the Kurdish YPG/PKK group in Syria to counter Turkey’s military operations. The agreement was reached during a meeting between Iranian officials and YPG/PKK representatives in a market in Iraq. Initially, the Kurdish group requested 2,000 drones, but Iran committed to providing only 1,500 units. The delivery, planned for Northern Iraq, has been delayed due to Turkey’s close surveillance and a 'strike order' to intercept any shipments. Turkey’s military pressure has forced the YPG/PKK to consider alternative strategies, such as transporting the drones in separate parts to avoid detection. The deal reflects Iran’s efforts to regain influence in the region by supporting groups opposing Turkey.
