VisitIran May Send Troops to Syria to Counter Rebels if Requested, Foreign Minister Says

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that Tehran would consider sending troops to Syria if the government in Damascus officially requests assistance to counter rebel offensives in northern Syria. Speaking in an interview with Qatari media outlet Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, Araghchi stated that Iran is prepared to evaluate the possibility of deploying forces to help stabilize the situation. He added that Iran does not command resistance groups in Arab countries and lacks organizational ties with them but offers support. Araghchi also indicated plans to visit Russia to discuss the developments in Syria.
