VisitIran's Uranium Enrichment Surges to 60% Purity, Edging Closer to Nuclear Weapons Capability
Dec 6, 2024, 01:12 PM
Iran has significantly ramped up its uranium enrichment activities, according to a U.S. intelligence report and statements from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). IAEA Chief Rafael Grossi revealed to Reuters that Iran's production of uranium enriched to up to 60% purity, which is near weapons-grade, has dramatically increased from a previous rate of around 5-7 kg per month. This escalation in enrichment capacity comes as a response to Israeli attacks and Western sanctions, with the U.S. intelligence warning that Iran is edging closer to nuclear weapons capability. Iran now has the potential to produce more than 12 nuclear bombs if it enriches its current uranium stockpiles, far exceeding its alleged civilian nuclear ambitions.
