VisitIran and Armenia Sign $500 Million Arms Deal Including Drones and Military Bases
Jul 24, 2024, 04:53 PM
Iran and Armenia have signed a major arms deal worth $500 million, according to multiple sources. The agreement includes the supply of various drones, such as the Shahed-136, Shahed-129, Shahed-197, and Mohajer-6, as well as air defense missile systems like the Khordad-3, Majid, Khordad-15, and Martyr Arman. The deal also involves the establishment of Iranian military bases on Armenian soil, extensive intelligence cooperation, and the training of Armenian troops by Iranian advisors. This move comes as Iran's arms exports have increased fourfold compared to three years ago, with manufacturing weapons seeing a 250% rise, according to Iran's Defense Minister. Iran aims to reach 10 billion dollars in arms exports by 2030. The deal is expected to have significant geopolitical implications, particularly with Azerbaijan, which may be angered by the supply of Iranian suicide drones to Armenia.
