Dec 29, 2024, 12:20 AM
No. 18 Iowa State defeated No. 13 Miami 42-41 in the Pop-Tarts Bowl held in Orlando, Florida, on December 28, 2024, securing the Cyclones' first 11-win season in program history and setting a school record for points scored in a bowl game with 42 points. Iowa State quarterback Rocco Becht, who was named the game's MVP, scored the game-winning touchdown on a fourth-and-goal quarterback sneak from a yard out with 56 seconds remaining. Becht also passed for multiple touchdowns and led a 15-play, 84-yard drive to take the late lead. Miami quarterback Cam Ward played his final college football game as the Hurricanes fell short, ending their season 10-3 after losing three of their last four games. Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell earned a $50,000 bonus for the win, concluding a season in which he accrued $1.35 million in bonuses. The Pop-Tarts Bowl featured unique elements such as edible mascots, sprinkles on the sidelines, and a working toaster trophy. Following the victory, the Cyclones participated in the bowl's tradition by sacrificing and consuming a Cinnamon Roll-flavored Pop-Tart mascot chosen by Becht.
