VisitIowa State Defeats Utah 31-28, Ending Utes' Bowl Hopes, Joins Big 12 Four-Way Tie
Nov 24, 2024, 03:39 AM
Iowa State defeated Utah 31-28 in Salt Lake City, with a late 3-yard touchdown run by Carson Hansen propelling the Cyclones ahead with 1:31 remaining. On a pivotal third-and-one play during the drive, Iowa State executed a halfback pass from Hansen to tight end Gabe Burkle. Earlier in the game, quarterback Rocco Becht connected with Jayden Higgins for a 7-yard touchdown pass. Utah, led by fifth-string quarterback Luke Bottari in the final minutes, advanced into field goal range, but Cole Becker's 54-yard attempt missed, sealing the win for the Cyclones. Earlier, Utah had taken the lead with 5:51 remaining on a one-yard touchdown run by Micah Bernard. The victory moves No. 22 Iowa State into a four-way tie atop the Big 12 standings with Arizona State, BYU, and Colorado, all at 6-2 in conference play. Iowa State now controls its own destiny for a spot in the Big 12 Championship Game and will face Kansas State next week in the 'Farmageddon' rivalry. With the loss, Utah is now ineligible for a bowl game for the first time since 2013.
