Intel and AMD Unite at Lenovo TechWorld to Form x86 Advisory Group with Industry Leaders

Intel and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) have announced the formation of an x86 Ecosystem Advisory Group during Lenovo TechWorld 2024. Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger and AMD CEO Lisa Su emphasized the importance of the collaboration in accelerating innovation for developers and customers within the x86 computing architecture. The group includes founding members from leading technology companies such as Broadcom, Dell Technologies, Google Cloud, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), HP Inc., Lenovo, Meta, Microsoft, Oracle, and Red Hat, as well as prominent figures like Linus Torvalds and Tim Sweeney. The collaboration seeks to evolve the x86 instruction set architecture (ISA), ensuring a unified ISA moving forward and simplifying software development. This partnership between longtime rivals underscores a unified effort to strengthen the x86 ecosystem in the face of increasing competition from alternative architectures like ARM and RISC-V.
