VisitInstagram Introduces Teen Accounts with Enhanced Privacy for 100 Million Users
Sep 17, 2024, 12:40 PM
Instagram has announced the introduction of Teen Accounts, a new feature designed to enhance the safety and privacy of users aged 13-17. New teenage users will automatically receive these accounts, while existing teenage users will be transitioned within the next 60 days. The new accounts will be private by default and include increased parental controls, limiting the content teens can view and who can contact them. Additionally, the accounts will feature age-verification changes and notifications will be muted during certain hours. This move comes as Instagram faces growing scrutiny over the impact of social media on young users and aims to regain the trust of parents. Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, acknowledged that while these changes may hurt the business, they are necessary to address concerns about children's online safety. Worldwide, over 100 million accounts will likely be impacted.
