VisitIndia Warns Canada of 'Serious Consequences' Over Allegations Against Amit Shah
Nov 2, 2024, 10:02 AM
India has summoned the representative of the Canadian High Commission to protest against what it calls 'absurd and baseless' allegations made by Canada against India's Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that such irresponsible actions will have serious consequences for bilateral ties. The MEA condemned Canadian officials for making unfounded references to Amit Shah during the proceedings of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security in Ottawa on October 29, 2024. India also accused Canadian government officials of deliberately leaking unfounded insinuations to international media as part of a strategy to discredit India and influence other nations. Furthermore, India formally protested to the Canadian government over reports that its consular officials in Canada are under audio and video surveillance, with their communications intercepted, in violation of the Vienna Convention.
