Jul 26, 2024, 06:26 AM
India has achieved a significant milestone with the inclusion of the Charaideo Moidams, the mound-burial system of the Ahom dynasty in Assam, in the UNESCO World Heritage List. This marks India's 43rd property on the list and is the first cultural property from the Northeast to receive this recognition. The announcement was made during the 46th World Heritage Committee session held in New Delhi. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed pride in this achievement, highlighting it as a great win for Assam. The Moidams, also known as the 'Pyramids of India,' are nearly 700 years old and were nominated for the list in 2023.
