VisitIndia Abstains from July 11 UNGA Resolution Demanding Russia Cease Aggression in Ukraine, Including Zaporizhzhia

On July 11, India abstained from voting on a UN General Assembly resolution that demanded Russia immediately cease its aggression against Ukraine and withdraw its military forces from Ukrainian territory, including the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. The resolution, which was co-sponsored by dozens of countries including Ukraine, called for the safety and security of nuclear facilities in Ukraine. A total of 60 countries, including China, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Egypt, Nepal, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and Sri Lanka, abstained from the vote. Nine countries, including Russia, Belarus, Cuba, North Korea, and Syria, voted against the resolution, while 99 countries voted in favor.
