VisitImmigrant Rights Groups File First Legal Challenge Against Biden's Asylum Order
Jun 12, 2024, 10:16 PM
A coalition of immigrant rights groups, including the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), CGRS, NIJC, TXCivilRights, LasAmericasIAC, and RAICESTEXAS, has filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration. The legal challenge targets a recent executive order that significantly restricts asylum claims for migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally. The new policy, which mirrors a previous Trump-era asylum ban, has been criticized for putting thousands of lives at risk and for running roughshod over existing laws. The lawsuit marks the first legal challenge to President Joe Biden's border crackdown, which was enacted just a week ago.
