An Illinois sheriff's deputy, Sean Grayson, has been charged with murder following the fatal shooting of Sonya Massey, a 36-year-old Black woman, in her Springfield home. The incident occurred after Massey called 911 to report a possible intruder. According to authorities, Grayson shot Massey in the face during a tense moment involving a pot of water and discouraged his partner from rendering medical aid. Grayson has been fired from his position and arrested. He pled not guilty to the murder charges on Thursday. A grand jury in Illinois indicted Grayson in connection with the shooting.
