VisitIDF Uses Over 400 Tons of Explosives to Destroy Hezbollah Tunnel, Triggering Earthquake Alerts in Israel
Oct 26, 2024, 05:09 AM
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted a massive controlled explosion in southern Lebanon, using over 400 tons of explosives to destroy a Hezbollah tunnel complex used by the group's elite Radwan forces. The tunnel, concealed beneath a civilian home and serving as a weapons storage facility and command and control headquarters, was part of a network potentially intended for an invasion of northern Israel. The explosion was so powerful that it registered as an earthquake and triggered over 500 false earthquake alerts across northern Israel, including in Haifa and other northern communities. Residents received alerts from the Red Alert System, typically issued for earthquakes of magnitude 4.0 or higher, though no tremors were felt. The Geological Institute and the IDF confirmed that the alerts were false and were investigating the cause, later attributing them to the controlled demolition of the Hezbollah facility.
