VisitIDF Uncovers 25 Hamas Smuggling Tunnels, Including 3-Meter-High Passage on Gaza-Egypt Border
Aug 4, 2024, 12:31 PM
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have uncovered a significant network of smuggling tunnels on the Gaza-Egypt border, specifically in the Philadelphi Corridor. Among the discoveries is a tunnel large enough for vehicles, measuring approximately three meters in height. This tunnel, along with dozens of others, was used by Hamas to smuggle weapons and other contraband. The IDF's recent operations have led to the identification and elimination of these tunnels, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in the region. The tunnels were found to be part of Hamas's extensive smuggling network, which has been used to transport weapons for terrorist activities, including the October 7 Massacre. The discovery underscores the importance of maintaining control over the Philadelphi Corridor to prevent Hamas from rearming. At least 25 tunnels were discovered, some of which crossed into Egypt. One tunnel was found beneath a mosque in Rafah. The IDF has shared images of the tunnels.
