VisitIDF Gains Control Over Philadelphi Corridor on Gaza-Egypt Border, Uncovers 20 Tunnels
May 29, 2024, 04:30 PM
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have achieved full operational control over the Philadelphi Corridor, a strategic route along the Gaza-Egypt border. This corridor, which runs for 14 kilometers (8.7 miles), has been a critical smuggling route for Hamas, with many tunnels used to transport weapons into Gaza. The IDF has discovered approximately 20 tunnels crossing into Egypt, 82 tunnel shafts, and dozens of rocket launchers in the area. The military's control over this corridor is seen as a significant move to cut off Hamas's supply lines. Additionally, the IDF has demolished a significant Hamas tunnel near the Rafah Border Crossing, following intelligence on its location. This marks the first time in 18 years that the IDF has full control over the corridor.
