VisitIDF Confirms Killing of Hezbollah's Hashem Safieddine, Successor to Nasrallah, in Beirut Strike
Oct 22, 2024, 08:09 PM
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed the elimination of Hashem Safieddine, the head of Hezbollah's Executive Council and cousin of former Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, in an airstrike on Beirut approximately three weeks ago. Following Nasrallah's assassination by Israel, Safieddine had been newly appointed as Hezbollah's Secretary-General and was considered the heir apparent. The strike also killed Ali Hussein Hazima, the commander of Hezbollah's Intelligence Headquarters, along with 23 other senior commanders. The bodies were recovered in the Dahieh suburb of southern Beirut. The airstrike targeted Hezbollah's main intelligence headquarters. The IDF Chief of Staff remarked, "We have reached Nasrallah, his successor is gone too."
