VisitIBA Awards Angela Carini $50,000 Olympic Champion Prize Money After Forfeiture
Aug 2, 2024, 11:15 PM
The International Boxing Association (IBA) has decided to award Italian boxer Angela Carini with prize money equivalent to that of an Olympic champion, despite her forfeiture in a welterweight bout against Algerian boxer Imane Khelif. The match, part of the Paris 2024 Olympics, ended less than a minute into the first round. IBA President Umar Kremlev stated that Carini would receive $50,000. The decision comes after Khelif, who has XY chromosomes, was previously disqualified from women's boxing by the IBA in 2023. The IBA's move aims to address fairness concerns in women's boxing.
