VisitIBA Awards Angela Carini $50,000 Despite 46-Second Forfeiture at Paris 2024
Aug 2, 2024, 11:15 PM
The International Boxing Association (IBA) has decided to award Italian boxer Angela Carini with $50,000 in prize money, equivalent to that of an Olympic champion, despite her forfeiture in a match against Algerian boxer Imane Khelif at the Paris 2024 Games. Carini abandoned the fight 46 seconds into the first round. The IBA's decision comes after Khelif, who has XY chromosomes, was previously disqualified from women's boxing in 2023. IBA President Umar Kremlev stated that the prize money would be given to Carini as if she were an Olympic champion.
