VisitIAEA Reports Iran's Uranium Stockpile Grows 16%, Near Weapons-Grade
Aug 29, 2024, 04:07 PM
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has reported that Iran has increased its stockpile of uranium enriched to near weapons-grade levels. The stockpile has grown by 16% since the last report, with Iran now possessing 164.7 kilograms of uranium enriched up to 60%, an increase of 22.6 kilograms since May. The total stockpile of enriched uranium is estimated at 5,751.8 kilograms as of August 17. This development comes despite international demands for Iran to halt its enrichment activities and cooperate with the IAEA. The increase in enriched uranium levels raises concerns about Iran's potential to develop nuclear weapons, as 125 kilograms of uranium enriched to 20% is theoretically enough to produce a nuclear bomb if further enriched.
