Hundreds Gather in Butler County to Honor Fire Chief Killed in Trump Assassination Attempt

Hundreds of mourners gathered in Butler County, Pennsylvania, to honor Corey Comperatore, the volunteer fire department chief who was killed during an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally. Comperatore was shot while shielding his family from gunfire. A candlelight vigil was held in Sarver, Pennsylvania, followed by a memorial ceremony at Laube Hall in Freeport on Thursday. His casket, draped in an American flag, was escorted by firefighters from across the country. Former President Trump sent a note hailing Comperatore as a hero. The funeral took place on Friday with a large procession of fire trucks accompanying the casket to the church in Cabot, Pennsylvania. Comperatore’s final act was telling his family to "get down" before a bullet took his life.
