VisitHTS Promises Security to Chinese and Russian Citizens in Syria, Seeks International Cooperation on Chemical Weapons
Dec 7, 2024, 04:14 PM
Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a Syrian opposition group, has issued statements addressing both the security of foreign nationals in Syria and the issue of chemical weapons. HTS has assured the citizens of China and Russia in Syria that their battle is not against foreign countries or their citizens, promising them full security and protection. Additionally, HTS has declared its readiness to cooperate with the international community to monitor weapons and sensitive sites, particularly in light of concerns that chemical weapons might have been seized in southern Aleppo. The group explicitly stated that they have no intention or desire to use chemical weapons, considering their use a crime against humanity, and are willing to secure such weapons and work with international bodies. HTS's Political Affairs Department has also sent messages to Jordan, stating that liberating Syria would mean the return of refugees and the cessation of drug trafficking across the border.
