VisitHouthi Hypersonic Missile from Yemen Reaches Central Israel, Travels 2,040 km, Causes Minor Injuries
Sep 15, 2024, 06:51 AM
The Israeli military has confirmed that a surface-to-surface missile launched from Yemen by the Houthis penetrated Israeli air defenses and landed in an open area in central Israel. The missile, which traveled approximately 2,040 kilometers in 11.5 minutes, triggered sirens across central Israel, including Tel Aviv. Although there were no direct casualties from the missile, shrapnel from an Israeli interceptor fell on a train station in Modi'in, causing minor injuries to five people. The missile was launched at around 6:21 a.m., with sirens sounding at 6:32 a.m. The Israeli Defense Forces are investigating the failure to intercept the missile despite several attempts. The Houthis have claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that they used a new hypersonic ballistic missile. This marks the first time a missile from Yemen has reached central Israel. The intended target appeared to be the Gezer power plant.
