VisitHouse Speaker Johnson Demands Zelensky Fire Ambassador Oksana Markarova Over Scranton Visit
Sep 25, 2024, 08:21 PM
U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson has called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to fire Ukraine's Ambassador to the United States, Oksana Markarova. The demand comes after Markarova organized Zelenskyy's visit to a munitions factory in Scranton, Pennsylvania, which Johnson and other Republicans have criticized as a politically motivated act intended to support Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign. Johnson accused Markarova of election interference and stated that the visit was a partisan event that involved only Democratic officials. Zelenskyy flew on a military plane for the visit. Johnson sent a letter to Zelenskyy and will not meet with him during the latter's visit to the Capitol.
