VisitHouse Rejects $10,000 Daily Fine Resolution to Hold AG Garland in Contempt Over Biden/Hur Tapes
Jul 11, 2024, 03:29 PM
The House of Representatives has rejected a resolution to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in inherent contempt for failing to turn over audiotapes of President Biden's interview with special counsel Robert Hur. The resolution, introduced by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), sought to fine Garland $10,000 per day until the Biden/Hur tapes were provided. The vote failed narrowly, 204-210, with four Republicans—John Duarte (CA-13), David Joyce (OH-14), Mike Turner (OH-11), and Tom McClintock (CA-05)—joining Democrats in opposition. The resolution's failure was partly attributed to the absence of 12 Republican members. Despite this setback, Luna announced plans to refile the resolution when more GOP members are present in Washington, D.C.
