Nov 20, 2024, 01:59 PM
The U.S. House of Representatives has passed H.R. 825, known as the BOLIVAR Act, which aims to cut off financial support to the Maduro regime in Venezuela. The legislation prohibits federal contracts with any entity that maintains commercial relations with the Venezuelan government. The bill, co-sponsored by Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL), Rep. Michael Waltz, and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, is seen as a significant move to support the Venezuelan opposition and promote democracy. Senator Rick Scott, who also supports the bill, expressed optimism about the future of Venezuela, stating that Maduro's days are numbered. Scott discussed the bill's passage with Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado. Rep. Darren Soto also voted in favor of the bill.
