VisitHouse Panel Refers Former NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo to DOJ for Potential Prosecution Over Alleged False Statements
Oct 31, 2024, 04:39 AM
The House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic plans to refer former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, to the Department of Justice for potential prosecution over allegations that he lied to Congress about his role in a COVID-19 nursing home deaths report. The Republican-led panel asserts that Cuomo provided false statements during closed-door testimony in September, claiming he had not reviewed a State Health Department report on nursing home deaths, despite evidence indicating he wrote parts of it himself. The report, which deflected blame from his administration for the deaths of nursing home residents in early 2020, is at the center of the allegations. The referral is expected to be sent to Attorney General Merrick Garland, with the panel stating Cuomo's actions appear to be a 'conscious, calculated effort' to avoid accountability.
