VisitHouse Advances $95B Aid for Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan; TikTok Sale Provision Included
Apr 20, 2024, 11:01 AM
The U.S. House of Representatives has advanced a significant $95 billion foreign aid package aimed at supporting Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan among other allies. The package, which has faced considerable opposition from conservative factions within the Republican party, was pushed forward by House Speaker Mike Johnson despite threats from the GOP's far-right members to oust him. The aid package includes $60.8 billion for Ukraine, $26.4 billion for Israel, and $8.1 billion for the Indo-Pacific region. The House has scheduled final votes for Saturday, with separate votes planned for aid to each nation. Additionally, the package includes a controversial provision that could lead to the sale of TikTok by its Chinese parent company, ByteDance. The House vote was 316-94, with both Democrats and Republicans supporting the package.
