VisitHiro Technologies Launches Kickstarter to Use Baby Poop and Fungi Against Plastic Waste
Dec 15, 2024, 07:23 PM
A Texas-based company, Hiro Technologies, has launched a unique initiative to address the global plastic waste problem by utilizing baby poop and fungi. The company, founded by Tero Isokauppila and Miki Agrawal, aims to develop a diaper that, once used, can serve as a breeding ground for fungi that consume plastic. The fungi, which naturally break down lignin found in plastics, grow using the waste from diapers as a fertilizer. This innovative approach comes at a time when plastic production has escalated to 450 million metric tons annually, with significant environmental concerns due to its slow decomposition rate. Hiro Industries has initiated a Kickstarter campaign to fund the project, offering an at-home science kit to demonstrate how the fungi break down plastic.
