VisitHHS Funds AI-Driven TARGET Project Using Generative AI to Accelerate Antibiotic Discovery
Sep 30, 2024, 02:51 PM
The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is funding the TARGET project, which aims to accelerate antibiotic discovery using generative AI. The project, supported by ARPA-H, will leverage AI and deep learning to speed up the screening of new molecules for antibiotic activity. Jim Collins, a faculty lead at the Jameel Clinic, has been awarded funding for this initiative. The TARGET project brings together experts in antibiotic discovery, AI, and clinical testing to ensure the global pipeline of new antibiotics is replenished and to prevent treatable infections from becoming serious illnesses. HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra announced the project at the United Nations General Assembly.
