VisitHamburg Police Close Two Station Tracks as Two Travelers Suspected of Marburg Virus Infection
Oct 2, 2024, 04:53 PM
German federal police cordoned off two tracks at Hamburg Central Station after two travelers were suspected of being infected with the deadly Marburg virus. Authorities implemented infection protection measures, including isolating the individuals, following orders from the health department. One of the suspected cases is reportedly a student who arrived directly from Rwanda and had contact with a confirmed Marburg case, according to the newspaper Bild. The Marburg virus, which has a fatality rate of up to 88% and can cause "eye-bleeding" hemorrhagic fever, spreads through direct contact with infected bodily fluids. Most outbreaks have occurred in sub-Saharan Africa.
