VisitHacker Exploits 'DogeReaper' Vulnerability, Crashes 69% of Dogecoin Nodes, Price Spikes 1.8%
Dec 12, 2024, 01:44 PM
A hacker exploited a known vulnerability in the Dogecoin network, crashing 69% of its nodes. This exploit, known as 'DogeReaper', was publicly revealed on December 4 by the Department Of DOGE Efficiency. Andreas Kohl, a Bitcoin sidechain developer, claimed he was able to crash 442 out of Dogecoin's 647 nodes using an old Thinkpad laptop. The vulnerability allows attackers to remotely disable any node if its ID is known. Despite the exploit, Dogecoin's price experienced a 1.8% spike. The remaining nodes that were updated to the new patch are stable, but the incident raises concerns about the network's stability and the potential for malicious actors to disrupt the entire network for days.
