Nov 17, 2024, 08:00 PM
Grimmway Farms of Bakersfield, California, has issued a nationwide recall of organic whole and baby carrots after a deadly outbreak of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli O121:H9 linked to their products. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Sunday that 39 people across 18 states have been infected, resulting in 15 hospitalizations and one death. The recalled carrots were sold under multiple brand names at major retailers, including Walmart, Target, Publix, Kroger, Albertsons, Food Lion, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and Sprouts. Consumers are advised to check their homes for the recalled products, discard them immediately, and monitor for symptoms of E. coli infection. Carrots currently on store shelves are not affected. The CDC and the Food and Drug Administration are investigating the outbreak.
