This week, a heavily armed gang known as Gran Grif attacked the small town of Pont-Sondé in central Haiti, killing at least 70 people, including women and children, according to the United Nations. Initial reports indicated more than 20 deaths and over 50 injuries, but the death toll has since risen. The victims include 10 women and 3 infants, with a young mother and her newborn baby among those killed. Gang members wielding automatic rifles caused hundreds of residents to flee for their lives during the massacre. The United Nations expressed horror at the incident, calling for increased international assistance to the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission and a prompt, thorough investigation.
