VisitGOP Spending on Anti-Trans Ads Reaches $82 Million, Including $50 Million from McConnell PAC
Oct 29, 2024, 12:46 AM
As the 2024 election cycle approaches its conclusion, Republican candidates are intensifying their focus on transgender issues in campaign advertisements. The GOP has reportedly allocated over $82 million since late July to ads targeting Democratic candidates' positions on transgender athletes and gender-affirming care for minors. Notably, a PAC linked to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has contributed more than $50 million to this effort. In Ohio, Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown has faced over $30 million in advertising expenditures aimed at undermining his support for transgender rights. According to a spokesperson from the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), the focus on transgender issues reflects a significant divide between Democratic positions and the views of mainstream America.
