VisitGoogle to Launch FireSat AI-Powered Satellite Network to Detect Wildfires Early Next Year
Sep 16, 2024, 06:00 PM
Google is funding and partnering with various organizations to launch FireSat, a new constellation of AI-powered satellites designed to detect wildfires at an early stage. This initiative aims to prevent small fires from growing out of control by providing high-resolution and up-to-date images. The project involves collaboration with Muon Space, EarthFireAll, the Moore Foundation, and EDF. FireSat is expected to detect fires 1/400th the size of those identified by current early detection satellites, enhancing the ability of firefighters to respond quickly and mitigate destruction. The initiative represents a significant investment by Google, with millions of dollars allocated to the effort. The FireSat constellation will begin launching next year.
