VisitGoogle Admits AI Overviews Errors, Announces Technical Improvements After Viral Mistakes
May 31, 2024, 08:05 PM
Google has acknowledged significant issues with its AI Overviews search feature, which has been criticized for generating inaccurate and bizarre responses, such as recommending glue as a pizza ingredient and suggesting people ingest rocks. In response to the backlash, Google has announced more than a dozen technical improvements aimed at enhancing the accuracy and relevance of its AI-generated search summaries. The company has also defended itself by claiming that many of the viral screenshots were either exaggerated or fake. Additionally, Google has scaled back the AI Overviews feature, limiting its scope and improving the detection of nonsensical queries, satire, and humor. The tech giant has attributed some of the problems to 'data voids' and is committed to refining the AI tool to ensure it delivers reliable and helpful information to users.
