VisitGiants Sign Shortstop Willy Adames to Record $182 Million Deal, Surpassing Posey's Contract
Dec 7, 2024, 10:21 PM
Shortstop Willy Adames has agreed to a seven-year, $182 million contract with the San Francisco Giants, pending a physical, according to multiple reports including ESPN's Jeff Passan. The deal, authorized by Giants President of Baseball Operations Buster Posey, is the largest in franchise history, surpassing Posey's own previous $167 million contract. Adames, 29, had a career-best season in 2024 with the Milwaukee Brewers, recording 32 home runs, 112 RBIs, 21 stolen bases, a .331 on-base percentage, and a 3.1 WAR. His addition addresses a significant need for the Giants at shortstop, as the team looks to improve upon their lineup that ranked 19th in wRC+ last year. The move also provides flexibility to shift Tyler Fitzgerald to second base. The Brewers, due to Adames declining their qualifying offer and signing for over $50 million, will receive a compensatory draft pick between the first round and Competitive Balance Round A. Brewers manager Pat Murphy praised Adames, stating, 'He’s a good player, he’s a leader, and he loves the big situation.'
