VisitGermany to Remove Huawei and ZTE from 5G Core Network by 2026, Complete Removal by 2029
Jul 11, 2024, 09:39 AM
Germany has reached a compromise to strip Huawei components from its 5G core mobile network by the end of 2026. This decision, driven by national security concerns, also involves removing components from Chinese manufacturer ZTE. Telecom operators in Germany have preliminarily agreed to this move, which has been under discussion since 2019. Companies will have until 2029 to remove Huawei and ZTE gear from 5G access and transport networks. This decision is seen as a concession to the U.S., which has raised concerns about the security risks posed by Chinese components. The Chinese Foreign Ministry responded by highlighting the contributions of Huawei and other Chinese companies to Europe's communications infrastructure.
