VisitGermany Orders 17 More IRIS-T Air Defense Systems for Ukraine, Scholz Confirms
Sep 4, 2024, 07:53 AM
Germany has significantly increased its military support for Ukraine by ordering 17 additional IRIS-T air defense systems. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz confirmed the order, which includes eight IRIS-T SLM medium-range and nine IRIS-T SLS short-range systems. Four of these systems are expected to be delivered this year, with the remaining units to be delivered starting in 2025. This order is part of Germany's ongoing commitment to bolster Ukraine's defense capabilities against Russian attacks. Seven IRIS-T systems have already been delivered to Ukraine, and they have successfully intercepted over 250 Russian missiles with a hit rate of 95%. Additionally, Germany plans to purchase six more IRIS-T systems for its air force. The announcement was made at a Bundeswehr base in Todendorf, Schleswig-Holstein, and was reported by Reuters.
