Germany Confirms Continued Military Support for Ukraine, Including 12 Howitzers

Chancellor Olaf Scholz confirmed Germany's commitment to military support for Ukraine amid a domestic budget squeeze. Scholz announced the delivery of an advanced air-defense system to the German armed forces and confirmed orders for five more units, as well as an additional 17 units for Ukraine. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, speaking from Ramstein, emphasized that Germany has not changed its position on long-range strikes with donated weapons into Russian territory. Pistorius also highlighted that Russia is targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure with some of the most massive air attacks since the start of the war and announced that Germany will supply an additional 12 self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine, with six units to be delivered in 2024 and six in 2025.
