VisitGerman Military Bases in Cologne and Geilenkirchen Locked Down Over Suspected Sabotage
Aug 14, 2024, 12:27 PM
A German military base in Cologne, known as the Cologne-Wahn Bundeswehr base, has been placed on lockdown following a suspected sabotage incident involving its water supply. Authorities have warned the 5,500 soldiers and civilians stationed at the base not to consume tap water due to potential contamination. The base, located next to Cologne airport, houses military aircraft used by Chancellor Olaf Scholz and reported a break-in and damage to its perimeter fence. German police and counterintelligence units are investigating the incident. Additionally, a NATO air base in Geilenkirchen has raised its security level and is conducting tests on its water supply following similar concerns. The German government is investigating the possibility of Russian involvement in these sabotage attempts.
