VisitGeorgian President Rejects October 26 Election Results, Cites Russian Interference, Calls for Protests
Oct 27, 2024, 05:52 PM
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has refused to recognize the results of the parliamentary elections held on October 26, citing widespread electoral fraud and alleging Russian interference. Zurabishvili declared the elections as 'Russian' in nature and called on citizens to protest against the results. Opposition parties, including 'Unity - National Movement' and 'Coalition for Change,' have also rejected the election results, claiming they do not reflect the will of the Georgian people. Anna Dolidze, leader of Strong Georgia, expressed outrage over the Central Election Commission's published results. The President emphasized that recognizing the elections would mean accepting Georgia's subordination to Russia and jeopardizing its European future. She has urged citizens to gather at Rustaveli on October 27 at 7 PM to demonstrate their opposition to what she described as a Russian special operation aimed at subjugating Georgia. According to official results, the elections were won by the ruling 'Georgian Dream' party.
