Despite her veto and warnings from the European Union, parliamentary speaker Shalva Papuashvili signed the bill into law on October 3, citing Georgia's 'centuries-old Christian traditions of Georgia and Europe.' The legislation bans same-sex marriages, adoption by same-sex couples, gender transitions, and 'LGBT propaganda in education and media.' The United Nations has urged Georgian authorities to repeal the law.
