VisitGeneral Motors Settles Emissions Allegations for Older Vehicles with $146 Million Penalty
Jul 3, 2024, 08:15 PM
General Motors has agreed to a settlement with the U.S. government over allegations that nearly six million of its older pickups and SUVs emitted more carbon dioxide than reported. The automaker will pay $146 million in federal penalties and has voluntarily retired nearly 50 million metric tons of greenhouse gas credits to resolve the issue. The settlement, announced Wednesday, follows an investigation by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Biden administration, which determined that the vehicles violated federal emissions regulations.
